Outstanding Alumni Awards
This award annually honors a select few among the 19,000 living College of Education and Human Development alumni who through their achievements and commitment – have made extraordinary contributions to the fields of human services, education and public policy. Nominations are welcome at any time. In evaluating nominees, the award selection committee will consider the nominee’s career achievements and accomplishments as well as his/her commitment and service to profession, community, and the University of Delaware.
Nominations should be sent to the CEHD Dean’s Office, 106 Alison Hall West, University of Delaware, Newark, DE 19716 (fax: 302/831-4605). Please include the nominee’s resume; newspaper or magazine clippings about the nominee are also helpful to the selection committee. The committee may contact you later for further information. Current members of the CEHD Alumni Association board of directors are not eligible for the award.
2009 CEHD OUTSTANDING ALUMNI AWARDS received by Rita M. Landgraf and Pearl E. Stewart
The Honorable Rita M. Landgraf, Secretary of Health and Social Services for the State of Delaware and Pearl E. Stewart, Associate Professor, Department of Family and Child Studies, Montclair State University, were two of the four winners of the 2009 CEPP Outstanding Alumni Awards.
For the past 30 years, Secretary Rita M. Landgraf, B.S. Family and Community Services (’80), has served in numerous capacities in the public and private sectors and has always sought to identify innovative measures to meet the needs of special populations and to advocate for best practices in the delivery of support services on their behalf.
Dr. Pearl E. Stewart, B.S. Community and Family Services (’86), Ph.D. in Individual and Family Studies (’03), has coupled a successful academic career with a high level of service activies. Dr. Stewart’s research focuses on extended, rural African American families. Dr. Stewart also acts as a consultant for Beloved Communites which serves the needs of children and families impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
Rudolph F. Karkosak, Ed.D. Educational Leadership (’91) and Michael S. Jackson, M.P.A. (’98) were also named 2009 CEPP Outstanding Alumni.
