I decided to attend the University of Delaware’s Human Development and Family Studies PhD program due to it’s multidisciplinary approach to the scholarship on research, policy, and practice within the field. I was especially intrigued with the holistic approach that the department has on training next generation scholars, not only as researchers and professors but also as leaders, in the fields of early childhood, human development, family studies, and human services.
The department has gone above and beyond my expectations. It has provided me with hands on experience within the field on research, scholarship, and pedagogy. It has furthermore provided me with a more global approach to understanding families and human development. In fact, I have been provided the opportunity to attend and present at an international conferences in Japan and Austria. I truly feel that the skills I have obtained during my graduate endeavors have fully prepared me for a future in academe.
